Alyssa Moheiser is proof that people of any age can help to grow the game of lacrosse.

Moheiser, a freshman on the women’s club team at Creighton, has been a volunteer with her hometown Omaha Lacrosse Club (OLC) in Nebraska since 2022, consistently serving as a clinician with new player clinics and with the OLC’s soft stick program.

She loves working with younger players in demonstrating and teaching new skills and patiently answering questions about the game from participants and parents. Her enthusiasm is evident to all to see.

“I have worked with many parents, volunteer coaches, and board members to expand the visibility of lacrosse in the Omaha metro area, and Alyssa uniquely stands out for her contributions to grow the game,” said OLC president Greg Kubert. “Alyssa shows up week after week, season after season, because she loves working with the kids, contributing to growing the game, and having the opportunity to chase giggling kindergarteners with a pool noodle while they unknowingly practice cradling.”

In recognition of her selfless efforts, Moheiser was recently named as a recipient of USA Lacrosse’s Emerging Leader Award.

“What continues to impress me about this young woman, and exemplifies why she is deserving of this award, is the sense that she volunteers with OLC because she inherently enjoys it,” Kubert said. “As you might imagine, things can get a little crazy with a field full of 4-6 year olds running around with lacrosse sticks. Alyssa’s skill in coaching with enthusiasm and praise, as well as her ability to connect with the players, brings a sense of order that keeps our practices safe and fun.”

Moheiser’s ability to help mentor others is not confined to just working with younger players. Through the years, she has also been gracious in helping her own teammates to become better players.

“Alyssa's love for the game was evident from the moment I first met her, when my daughter began playing lacrosse seven or eight years ago. She stood out as one of the more skilled players on the team but was always eager to support and include newer athletes,” said Christine Egerton, a lacrosse mom and a member of the OLC’s leadership group.

From a young age, Moheiser has used her lacrosse IQ to help make her teammates better.

“I remember watching Alyssa help my daughter become comfortable with holding her stick and throwing the ball, always offering encouragement and guidance,” Egerton said. “She was not only a talented player but also a constant source of positivity and motivation for her teammates.”

As a steady presence in the Omaha youth lacrosse community for the past five years, Moheiser’s contributions have made a significant impact in the lives of countless new players.

“Whether she's setting up fields on game days or mentoring young athletes, her commitment to fostering the next generation of lacrosse players is undeniable,” Egerton said. “There’s no doubt that her passion for the sport, combined with her selfless dedication to the development of young athletes, ensures that Alyssa will continue to leave a lasting impact on the lacrosse community and inspire future generations of players.”
