IWLCA Tournament Series Joins USA Lacrosse Event Sanctioning Program

By Paul Ohanian

SPARKS, Md. — USA Lacrosse is pleased to announce that the IWLCA Tournament Series, managed by Elite Tournaments, is joining its event sanctioning program.

The IWLCA Tournament Series was created by the college coaches of the IWLCA to streamline the recruiting process and design a more effective and affordable process for both college coaches and prospective student-athlete families. Some of their popular national events include the IWLCA Capital Cup, IWLCA Champions Cup, and IWLCA Presidents Cup, in addition to a number of annual regional events.

“We’re extremely excited to welcome the IWLCA Tournament Series and Elite Tournaments to our event sanctioning program,” said JP Fischer, manager of sanctioning for USA Lacrosse. “The IWCLA Tournament Series offers so many unique opportunities for female student-athletes, and we’re pleased that those events will be committed to providing first-class experiences for all the participants.”

Events in the USA Lacrosse event sanctioning program adopt a set of operational and safety standards that cover five main areas of an event: game format, venue, risk management, event administration, and certified officials. When these practices are adopted in their entirety, events create a more positive experience for participants while receiving insurance and marketing benefits from USA Lacrosse.

“We are excited to work with USA Lacrosse and have our IWLCA Tournament Series associated with their national sanctioning program. Our goal is to provide a great experience for coaches, players, and their families and by joining forces with USA Lacrosse, parents can have the additional level of confidence that everything will be done at the highest level,” said Liz Robertshaw, IWLCA Executive Director.

Established in 2000, Elite Tournaments LLC has served as the IWLCA’s tournament partner since 2021.

“We're excited to announce this next step in our joint effort with USA Lacrosse to sanction the events in the IWLCA Tournament Series. This partnership only furthers our ability to continue attracting the top competition and clubs in the country,” said Caitlin Schmelz, Director of Lacrosse at Elite Tournaments.
