SPARKS, Md. — Colin Kurdyla and Shawn Lyght have been named as the captains for the 2025 U.S. Men’s U20 team that will begin competition in the World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship this weekend in South Korea.

The U.S., which has won each of the previous nine World Lacrosse junior men’s field championships, begins play against rival Canada. The game is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday local time from Jeju Island, which is 10 p.m. on Friday night Eastern time in the United States. The U.S. edged Canada 12-10 in the most recent edition of this championship in 2022 behind a five-goal effort from C.J. Kirst.

All games from the tournament will be streamed live on World Lacrosse TV with packages running $35 for the entire event.

Kurdyla is a rising junior at Rutgers and earned second team All-Big Ten honors this spring, splitting time between attack and midfield. He led the Scarlet Knights in scoring with 40 points (27g, 13a) with 21 of his goals coming over the final seven games of the season. He had six goals and three assists in two games in the Big Ten Tournament to earn all-tournament honors. Kurdyla was also a regular in the 2024 season when he had 30 points on 20 goals and 10 assists. As a high school player, Kurdyla was a two-time USA Lacrosse All-American at Bridgewater-Raritan (N.J.) High School.

Lyght, a rising junior at Notre Dame, has earned USILA All-America honors in each of his first two college seasons. He was a first team selection this spring when he was also named the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year. He was a second team selection in 2024 when he helped the Irish lead the country in scoring defense on the way to the national championship. He was a USA Lacrosse All-American at Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) and was also named as the New Jersey Player of the Year as a senior in 2023.
