USA Lacrosse has developed a new online course to introduce Sixes Lacrosse to men’s and women’s game officials. As the newest addition to the USAL Officials Development online catalogue, this course is intended to help officials confidently officiate this fast-paced lacrosse discipline that will be utilized at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The online course is designed to provide officials with the following points of instruction:
• Identify the key differences between Sixes and traditional field lacrosse.
• Explain specific rules and regulations that are unique to the Sixes game.
• Highlight officiating techniques tailored to the faster pace of play.
• Provide insights on how to manage the 30-second shot clock and game transitions.
• Explain proper positioning and movement on a smaller field of play
To access the course, USA Lacrosse members must login to their member profile, open their transcript, and simply select the course to begin. The cost of the six-module course is $35, which includes the USA Lacrosse Sixes Two-Person Mechanics Manual and direct links to the World Lacrosse Sixes Rulebook.
“The USA Lacrosse Officials' Sixes online course offers an in-depth look at the exciting game of Sixes lacrosse and we're confident that it will provide a solid foundation for anyone interested in learning more about the game and for those who may potentially serve as Sixes game officials,” said Liz Brush, manager of officials development at USA Lacrosse.
Officials looking to get a first-hand look at international Sixes Lacrosse are invited to attend The Atlas Cup event Sept. 26-28 at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md. The international field will include men’s and women’s national teams from the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Haudenosaunee Nationals. All games during the three-day event will utilize the Sixes format of lacrosse.
