SPARKS, Md. — The captains for the inaugural U.S. Women’s Box National Team have been selected. Emily Hawryschuk will be the captain while Ally Mastroianni and Kayla Wood will be the assistant captains. World Lacrosse rules also allow for an auxiliary captain in the event the captain is not dressed for a game and Kristen Carr will serve in that role.
Hawryschuk has been involved in every step of the way with the U.S. box program since the first player ID camp was held in May 2023. She was a three-time All-American selection at Syracuse and graduated as the school’s career leader in goals with 272. She also helped the U.S. win the Super Sixes event in Canada in 2023.
Mastroianni won a gold medal with the U.S. women’s team at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in field lacrosse and is also active in the U.S. sixes program. She has finished in the top 10 on the Athletes Unlimited leaderboard the last three seasons, including top five finishes in 2022 and 2024. She was a consensus first team All-American at North Carolina, helping the Tar Heels win the national championship.
Wood will be playing in her first World Lacrosse international championship after being an alternate for the 2022 U.S. women’s team at the world championship in field lacrosse. Wood has played the last four years in Athletes Unlimited, finishing sixth in the league in leaderboard points in 2021. A 2021 graduate of North Carolina, she helped the Tar Heels to the NCAA semifinals three times.
Carr has been a mainstay in the U.S. program since 2008, playing on World Cup championship teams in 2013 and 2017 and at The World Games in Poland in 2017. She was a member of the training team in 2022 and also coaches in the National Team Development Program. The head coach at Towson University, Carr has played in all three women’s professional leagues – the United Women’s Lacrosse League, the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League and Athletes Unlimited. She was a first-team All-American at North Carolina as a senior in 2010.
The U.S. Women’s National Box Team trains and plays using game-changing, high-performance equipment from Cascade and Gait and high-quality precision uniforms from Uncommon Fit.
In addition to these partners, Gatorade, MedStar Health and Stryker are official sponsors of the U.S. National Team Program. Team training is also aided by products from Athletic Republic.
