AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The United States women’s national team got a strong test from Puerto Rico in the early going, but pulled away in the second half for a 21-5 victory in the opening pool play game at the 2025 Pan-American Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
Puerto Rico scored first and held the U.S. scoreless for nearly six minutes before Emma Muchnick scored the first of her three goals in the game to get the U.S. on the scoreboard. Muchnick added her second later in the quarter and the U.S. led 4-1 after the opening frame.
A free position goal by Puerto Rico’s Isabella Henson-Vendrell cut the U.S. lead to just 6-3 with 4:17 remaining in the opening half, but goals by Marie McCool and Charlotte North in the final two minutes of the half gave the U.S. an 8-3 halftime lead.
Chloe Humphrey, this year’s Tewaaraton winner from national champion North Carolina, then put on a show in the second half – piling up a team-high six points on three goals and three assists – as the U.S. offense began clicking.
Humphrey, Muchnick, North and Izzy Scane all registered hat tricks in the victory while McCool and Emma LoPinto scored twice.
