USA Lacrosse CEO Marc Riccio calls it an “unprecedented moment in time” as the organization has announced five new national team head coaches.
“People that have heard me speak know I talk about three things for USA Lacrosse – grow the game, enrich the experience and field the best national teams,” Riccio said. “These coaches will play an integral role in all three of those mission priorities. We’re excited to work with all of them as we build towards the 2028 LA Olympics.”
Beginning Monday, April 8, USA Lacrosse announced a new coach each day.
- Men's U20: Shawn Nadelen, Towson University (April 8, 2024)
- Women's Sixes: Lindsey Munday, University of Southern California (April 9, 2024)
- Men's Sixes: Andy Shay, Yale University (April 10, 2024)
- Women's Senior Team: Acacia Walker-Weinstein, Boston College (April 11, 2024)
- Men's Senior Team: Seth Tierney, Hofstra University (April 12, 2024)
A thorough approach was used in the coach selection process. USA Lacrosse staff worked with representatives from the two college coaching organizations (IMLCA, IWLCA), the three professional leagues (Athletes Unlimited, NLL, PLL), past and current U.S. national team players and coaches and members of the USA Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Foundation Boards of Directors to identify candidates, interview and ultimately select the coaches.
“First and foremost, we were looking for great coaches and great human beings, but we were also looking for coaches that had an understanding of international rules and international competition,” Riccio said. “We were also very conscious of continuity to build off the great work that our previous head coaches have provided. Lastly, we wanted some understanding and experience of USA Lacrosse and our USA National Teams Program.”
The international lacrosse calendar has never been more robust with nine world championships scheduled in the next four years:
- 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship (Hong Kong, China)
- 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships (men’s and women’s box in Utica, N.Y.)
- 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship (Seogwipo, South Korea)
- The World Games 2025 (women’s sixes in Chengdu, China)
- 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship (Japan)
- 2026 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships (men’s and women’s sixes, location TBA)
- 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship (Japan)
The U.S. National Team Program trains and plays using game-changing, high-performance equipment from Cascade Maverik (men’s and women’s), Gait (women’s), STX (women’s) and Warrior (men’s) and best-in-class products from Enovis (sports bracing).
In addition to these partners, Gatorade, MedStar Health and Stryker are official sponsors of the U.S. National Team Program. Team training is also aided by products from Athletic Republic.
