“We’re incredibly excited to invite fans inside the journey of our U20 Men’s National Team, from the intensity of tryouts to the global stage of the world championship,” said Dave Krupinski, Vice President of Marketing, Media & Communications at USA Lacrosse. “Behind the Shield is designed to pull people into the game in a way that’s authentic, emotional, and accessible – whether you’ve spent your life around lacrosse or you’re discovering it for the very first time. That storytelling approach is core to our mission of growing the game and expanding its cultural footprint.”

The people of the U.S. Men’s U20 team are the focus of the series, beginning with head coach Shawn Nadelen, who famously rehabbed a torn ACL in order to win a gold medal with the U.S. men’s senior team in 2010. Connor Buczek, who led Cornell to the 2025 NCAA championship as a coach and won a U.S. junior level championship as a player, is one of the assistant coaches.

The final roster features many of the sport’s biggest college stars and they’ll have their stories told, including deep dives on Notre Dame’s Shawn Lyght, Georgetown’s Anderson Moore and North Carolina’s Brady Wambach.

Lyght, the cousin of former NFL star Todd Lyght and one of ten people in his extended family to earn college athletic scholarships, is the top defenseman in college lacrosse, leading Notre Dame to a national championship in 2024. Moore, an Alabama native who epitomizes the sport’s regional growth, is an All-American goalie. Wambach, the nephew of U.S. women’s soccer icon Abby Wambach, is college lacrosse’s top faceoff specialist.

“This series is about more than wins and losses, it’s about building a deeper connection to our players, our teams, and the values that define USA Lacrosse, while fueling our momentum towards LA28,” Krupinski added. “We’re especially proud that Behind the Shield was produced entirely in-house. It’s a true testament to the creativity, passion, and commitment of our staff, and to our belief that innovation in storytelling is essential to serving the game and shaping its future.”

The first episode of the docuseries drops on the USA Lacrosse YouTube channel on Monday, Feb. 9 at 12 noon (EST). Episodes will be added each Monday and Thursday until the final episode on Monday, March 2.
