Wednesday night’s women’s lacrosse exhibition game featuring the U.S. women’s national team and players from Athletes Unlimited will be streamed free of charge on the USA Lacrosse website.

The game will be played on June 8 at Stony Brook University, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and Sam Neidermann, the voice of Stony Brook athletics, will handle play-by-play duties and Beth Ann Mayer, a member of USA Lacrosse Magazine staff, will handle color. The game will be dedicated to mental health awareness and will spotlight the nonprofit organization Morgan’s Message.

The U.S. team is in training for the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship, which will be hosted by USA Lacrosse from June 29 to July 9 at Towson (Md.) University.

A record 30 nations will compete in this summer’s world championship, which is being held in the U.S. for the first time since 2005. The United States is the reigning world champion in women’s lacrosse, having defeated Canada in the 2017 final in Guildford, England, while England beat Australia for the bronze medal.

The U.S. team arrived at Stony Brook on Monday for a mini training camp, it’s final training session before getting together in Maryland later this month for the world championship. Wednesday’s game is a homecoming for three Long Island natives on the U.S. team — — Sam Apuzzo (West Babylon), Ally Kennedy (North Babylon) and Kylie Ohlmiller (Islip). Apuzzo went on to Boston College, winning the Tewaaraton Award in 2018. Kennedy and Ohlmiller both stayed home and earned All-America honors at Stony Book with Ohlmiller setting the NCAA record for career points at 498.

Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina is also an assistant coach for the U.S. women’s team, which is led by North Carolina head coach Jenny Levy who just won her third NCAA championship.

Athletes Unlimited, which operates the only women’s professional league in the United States, will hold its second season following the conclusion of the world championship. The Athletes Unlimited season features 56 of the best players on the planet including nine U.S. National and two international team members from England and Israel. Season two of Athletes Unlimited lacrosse will run for four weekends from July 21 through August 14 with all games being played at USA Lacrosse headquarters and carried exclusively on the ESPN networks.
