The 2019 U.S. women’s U19 lacrosse team put a bow on its gold-medal experience when the players and staff received their world championship rings on Friday night during the US Lacrosse Convention in Philadelphia.
The U.S. squad — led by head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller (Northwestern) and assistant coaches Angela McMahon (Massachusetts), Brooke Shriver (Bryn Mawr School) and Ann Whidden (Colorado) — strung together one of the most impressive performances in World Lacrosse U19 history.
The U.S. defeated the host Canadians, 13-3, in Peterborough, Ontario, avenging a loss to Canada in the 2015 world championship game in Scotland. The U.S. won all seven games it played in the tournament, outscoring its opponents 128-20.
Bri Gross (El Dorado Hills, Calif.), Rachel Hall (Cypress, Texas), Maddy Jenner (Annapolis, Md.), Izzy Scane (Clarkston, Mich.) and Caitlyn Wurzburger (Delray Beach, Fla.) were named to the all-world team from the United States, putting an exclamation point on the most geographically diverse team in U.S. national team history. The final 18-player roster featured players from high schools in nine states.
Gross, Wurzburger and Sophia DiCenso will be at the US Lacrosse booth for an autograph session with Team USA senior team star Marie McCool on Saturday at 11 a.m. to kick off Fan Fest at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
