SPARKS, Md. — The world’s top lacrosse powers are coming to USA Lacrosse headquarters this fall for The Atlas Cup, an international event showcasing the sixes format of the game that will be utilized for the LA28 Olympics. The United States will welcome top international lacrosse teams, including the men’s and women’s teams from Canada and the Haudenosaunee Nation, from Sept. 26-28 for three days of intense competition.
“There’s no better way to showcase the speed and excitement of the sixes format of the game than by bringing the best teams in the world together,” said Marc Riccio, CEO of USA Lacrosse. “We’re honored to have these tremendous athletes and ambassadors coming to our headquarters for The Atlas Cup. This will be a tremendous platform to show the best that the sport has to offer as we continue on the path to the Olympics.”
Just as Atlas carried the weight of the world in Greek mythology, The Atlas Cup name pays homage to today’s lacrosse athletes as they carry the future of the sport on their shoulders entering a pivotal moment in the sport’s history with the Olympics on the horizon.
The Atlas Cup marks the first time these international lacrosse powers have competed in the same event in men’s and women’s sixes since The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Ala. Canada beat the United States in the gold medal game in both the men’s and women’s events at The World Games that year while the Haudenosaunee men finished fifth and the women finished seventh.
In addition to the games, The Atlas Cup will have fan zones, exclusive merchandise, family-fun activities, food trucks and entertainment throughout the weekend, along with unprecedented up-close access to the best players in the sport.
USA Lacrosse members will have exclusive access to early-bird pricing for tickets via email. Early-bird pricing for the general public will go on sale on July 15. USA Lacrosse members are encouraged to check their email for more information on tickets.
