Staples (Conn.) debuts after an 8-1 start. The Wreckers have already beaten such teams as Ridgefield (Conn.) and New Canaan (Conn.), with their lone loss coming when Greenwich (Conn.) upset them. At No. 10, they are the highest team to debut this week.
Ridgefield (Conn.) comes in just behind at No. 11. Staples and Brunswick (Conn.) are the only schools to beat the Tigers, and they hammered the same Greenwich team that beat Staples. They also boast wins over Rye (N.Y.), Somers (N.Y.), Fairfield Ludlowe (Conn.), Manhasset (N.Y.) and Wantagh (N.Y.).
Kings Park (N.Y.) has beaten every Islip there is — Islip (N.Y.), East Islip (N.Y.) and now West Islip (N.Y.) — to gain major credibility. Its lone loss was to Mount Sinai (N.Y.). The Kingsmen will match up next against Sayville (N.Y.) in what could be a challenging game.
Finally, there’s West Genesee (N.Y.), which is off to a perfect start through nine games. The Wildcats edged Jamesville-DeWitt (N.Y.) to keep their record unblemished. They also own narrow wins over Baldwinsville (N.Y.) and Lincoln-Sudbury (Mass.).
Northport (N.Y.) also made a significant jump in the rankings. The Tigers just lost to unbeaten No. 2 Half Hollow Hills (N.Y.) in a tightly contested game after they’d beaten Garden City (N.Y.) The Tigers also have a strong win over Huntington (N.Y.).
In the Midwest, Mason (Ohio) took a head-to-head win over Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) to make the biggest jump. Rockford (Mich.) also debuts with an 11-1 start that includes a narrow win over former No. 8 East Grand Rapids (Mich.).
The West Region also has one new team, Eastlake (Wash.), which picked up a one-goal win over region No. 7 Mercer Island (Wash.). Monte Vista (Calif.) jumped four spots after avenging an earlier loss to De La Salle (Calif.).
