Garden City Climbs to No. 1, Springfield to No. 4 in USA Lacrosse Public High School Boys' Rankings
There's plenty of change to reflect early results, including a new No. 1 and seven newcomers who have worked their way into the USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration.
At the top, Summit (N.J.) defeated last week's No. 1 Radnor (Pa.). That result opened the door for Garden City (N.Y.) to move up one spot to No. 1 after a 4-0 start in which the Trojans have more than doubled opponents, 51-23.
No. 2 Darien (Conn.) has to wait until Saturday to open its season. Summit snags the No. 3 spot and unbeaten Springfield-Delco (Pa.) follows at No. 4. Springfield already owns top-quality regional wins over teams from New York (Northport), Maryland (Broadneck) and New Jersey (Ridgewood). They'd love to add a big Pennsylvania win when they face Radnor this week in one of the country's best rivalries.
Radnor also squares off with Cape Henlopen (Del.) which celebrated one of the biggest wins of the season by upending Bullis (Md.) in a matchup with a top private school. Radnor knocked off a very strong Shawnee (N.J.) team last week.
New York juggernauts have been taking swings at each other and when all the dust settled, Manhasset (N.Y.) has ridden a 4-0 start to third in the Northeast Region. They have an opening-day win over Mamaroneck (N.Y.), which handed Massapequa (N.Y.) its only loss thus far. Massapequa already had a quality win over Wantagh (N.Y.), which defeated Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) which handled Rye (N.Y.) after Rye beat Somers (N.Y.). Sprinkled between are the Connecticut factions who have yet to be tested.
In other cross-state matchups, Severna Park (Md.) flexed its muscles with a win over Robinson (Va.), a team that defeated Broadneck (Md.). In other huge wins, Westfield (N.J.), which already has a pair of losses, pulled off one of the most significant victories, topping Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) by a goal.
Highland Park (Texas) crossed state and region lines to win over Benjamin (Fla.) earlier and adds another national win when they rolled by Torrey Pines (Calif.). Ponte Vedra (Fla.) handed Roswell (Ga.) its first loss of the year.
Manhasset and Mamaroneck lead the newcomers to the national Top 25. Port Washington (N.Y.) is unbeaten, Staples (Conn.) still has more than a week until they open, Robinson, Lucy Beckham (S.C.) and Sachem North (N.Y.) all have strong resumes.
There's more great matchups ahead. Garden City gets its first test as No. 1 against Jamesville-DeWitt (N.Y.). New Canaan (Conn.) opens with Mamaroneck in a great cross-state showdown this week.
By focusing exclusively on public school programs, these USA Lacrosse National Top 25 and Regional Top 10 lists (also found here in our rankings hub) highlight the best teams that have built powerhouse rosters through local development and strong grassroots efforts.
Presented by CWENCH Hydration, these rankings are compiled by USA Lacrosse writers with input from coaches around the country. Rankings and records reflect results as of previous Tuesday.
