Maryvale Enters IAAM Final Four at No. 1 in USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25
Ward Melville (N.Y.) has won nine straight games, including an overtime victory against Northport (N.Y.), as the only team to debut in the USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration.
Unranked IMG Academy (Fla.) team affected the rankings as much as anyone. Barely .500 with a challenging schedule, IMG beat both Episcopal Academy (Pa.) and Agnes Irwin (Pa.) to open the door for more mid-rankings movement.
Also notable:
— No. 1 Maryvale (Md.) won its playoff opener and will try to repeat this week as IAAM champion, with the final to be played Friday at USA Lacrosse.
— No. 2 Darien (Conn.) fought off another slew of challengers and this week faces Sacred Heart Greenwich (Conn.) in a top-10 matchup as well as Nyack (N.Y.).
— Penn Charter (Pa.) has won 18 straight games since a 1-2 start. The Quakers avenged one of their losses with a huge league win over Episcopal Academy (Pa.).
— Sayville (N.Y.) and Manchester Valley (Md.) remain unbeaten among public school ranked in the top 10 nationally.
— American Heritage-Delray (Fla.) leads a contingent of Florida teams that have earned regional championships and are eyeing state titles.
— In another top-25 matchup, Garden City (N.Y.) picked up a big win over Manhasset (N.Y.).
— St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Va.) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on a goal late in overtime by Stone Ridge (Md.).
— Agnes Irwin (Pa.) begins a gauntlet league schedule that carries regional and national implications. The Owls face, in succession, Penn Charter, Academy of Notre Dame (Pa.) and Episcopal.
