American University head coach Lindsay Teeters will be among the featured speakers at the USA Lacrosse Convention from Jan. 20-22, 2023, in Baltimore. LaxCon, annually the sport’s largest educational and networking event, takes place at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Teeters has led American for just two seasons, but she and her staff have already found historic success. The Eagles enjoyed one of their best seasons ever in 2022, tying a program record with nine wins and making their first postseason appearance since 2013.

Teeters has coached at all levels and was the national teams manager at USA Lacrosse in 2013. She played at the highest level, too, spending three years with the U.S. national team as a midfielder.

Because of her exposure at all levels, Teeters is passionate about teaching the game correctly. Joined by assistant coach Mary Eames at LaxCon, Teeters will present on the fundamentals of teaching a well-balanced offense.

“We’ll talk a lot about general concepts to run a true freelance offense,” Teeters said. “You’re bringing in all aspects of their games, rather than just passing clear through. We’re really trying to get them to understand timing of cuts and how to create offense.”

Too often, Teeters said, players come to college and don’t have a full toolbox of offensive skills. Many are so used to standing pat while their top high school teammates commanded all the attention. Instead, Teeters wants youth and high school coaches to teach offenses that groom players 4-7 just as much as players 1-3.

“You don’t have to have specific roles,” Teeters said. “A lot of teams pigeon-hole kids. At American, we’re trying to develop the concept of a more well-rounded player. Everyone focuses in on those top players, and you lose sight what the rest of your offense can really create.”

Those in attendance at Teeters’ and Eames’ presentation can expect to learn plenty of strategies to take back to their teams that will ultimately improve secondary and tertiary players on offense who can blossom if given the opportunity and the right system.

LaxCon, Teeters said, is the ideal place to share ideas and make you a better coach.

“It’s all about growing the game and making yourself better,” she said. “There’s so much knowledge to be shared.”
