USA Lacrosse Accepting Round Two Grant Applications

By Paul Ohanian

(Oct. 1, 2021) — Beginning today, USA Lacrosse is accepting applications for the second round of its 2021-22 grant offerings, which provide resources to groups and organizations to support local lacrosse development and opportunities.

As part of this Round 2 (Standard) cycle, USA Lacrosse will be accepting grant applications (called proposals) for the following initiatives: TryLax, Physical Education, First Stick, AED, National Diversity Grant, Urban Lacrosse Alliance, Sankofa Clinic Series, Box Lacrosse, and Officials Development.

This grant cycle will be open from October 1-13, with fulfillment for approved recipients to occur over the first three months of 2022. The online application/proposal form, along with additional information about the submission process, is available at www.usalacrosse.com/grant-process

USA Lacrosse plans to accept a third round of 2021-22 grant applications in January.

Each of the grant categories have slightly differing goals and qualifications. Grant eligibility can be reviewed online

A brief definition of each program and grant is noted below:

TryLax - These are 90-minute, introductory clinics for youth who have never played lacrosse before. The clinics feature a curriculum designed by USA Lacrosse and delivered by coaches from local programs. Every participating child receives a stick as part of the grant.

Physical Education – Typically awarded to schools and youth organizations, this grant package provides modified PE lacrosse equipment and a curriculum for introducing a co-ed version of lacrosse designed for kids to achieve quick success executing the basics skills of the game.

First Stick - Provides local organizations with lacrosse equipment and support so they can provide affordable and accessible youth lacrosse activities to their participants.

AED – Provides organizations with portable AED devices that deliver potentially life-saving defibrillation therapy when needed on-site for games and practices.

National Diversity - Funding to qualified organizations that initiate or continue programs and projects that promote lacrosse participation and education in underrepresented communities.

Urban Lacrosse Alliance – Support through equipment and subsidies for self-sustaining youth programs that provide playing opportunities in underrepresented communities.

Sankofa Clinic Series – Free youth clinics for boys and girls from underrepresented lacrosse communities.

Box Lacrosse – Funding assistance for protective equipment that helps reduce the financial barrier of entry into box lacrosse.

Officials Development – Aid for local officiating organizations to offset expenses related to recruiting, training, retention, and leadership activities.

USA Lacrosse believes that broad representation and participation add significant value to the lacrosse experience and seeks to provide sustained leadership and resources for the growth of the game in all communities. In 2020, grants provided by USA Lacrosse had a total retail value of over $1.2 million, and a direct impact to over 16,000 youth players.
