Culver Stays Unbeaten Atop USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25
The matchup of Midwest monsters lived up to its billing with Culver Academy (Ind.) fending off fellow unbeaten Western Reserve (Ohio) by a goal to hold onto the top spot in the latest USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration.
Down 8-4 at halftime, the Eagles stormed back in the second half to prevail 10-9. Other notable results this past week:
— Loomis Chaffee (Conn.) suffered its first defeat, as Avon Old Farms (Conn.) continued its climb after also beating Choate (Conn.) in a banner week. There's no time to mope for Loomis, which faces Deerfield (Mass.) this week.
— St. Anthony's (N.Y.) rebounded from some tough losses to pick up a quality victory over Malvern Prep (Pa.). Malvern was coming off a big win of its own, as the Friars became the first team in-region to beat Episcopal (Pa.). St. Anthony's will try to do the same against Lawrenceville (N.J.) this week — another enormous matchup with national implications.
— Delbarton (N.J.), suffered a setback against Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) team that struggled for wins out of the gate.
A trio of newcomers join the national rankings, led by Iona Prep (N.Y.), which is unbeaten through seven games. Summit (N.J.) is also undefeated with notable wins over Seton Hall Prep and Radnor (Pa.). Also back in the rankings is McDonogh (Md.), which knocked off a Loyola Blakefield (Md.).
Neither St. Sebastian's (Mass.) nor Garden City (N.Y.) has lost yet this season. Garden City faces New Jersey powers St. Augustine and Shawnee this week.
Chaminade (N.Y.) faces New Canaan (Conn.) and Manhasset (N.Y.) in its week. Delbarton and Malvern square off to end the week.
