Many in the Northeast Region took their first faceoffs, and their starts gave a small sample size but a big effect. Led by St. Sebastian’s (Mass.), three teams from the Northeast are new to this week’s USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25.
St. Sebastian’s win over Taft (Conn.) helped the Arrows debut at No. 9. That’s just a few spots ahead of Choate (Conn.) which rides a pair of wins, including one over previously ranked Belmont Hill (Mass.), into the rankings at No. 12. Choate’s only loss came at the start of a preseason trip after just one day of practice. Garden City (N.Y.) claimed its season opener to jump to the No. 24 spot.
Salisbury (Conn.) climbed a few rungs with a win over a Loomis Chaffee (Conn.) team that also impressed early by defeating Malvern Prep (Pa.). Brunswick (Conn.) made a sizable jump to No. 14 after adding two more wins to its resume. Within its region, it took down a Deerfield (Mass.) team that had been ranked.
Loomis Chaffee’s win over Malvern further shuffled rankings, as did Boys’ Latin (Md.) handing Archbishop Spalding (Md.) its first loss of the year. McDonogh (Md.) is finally getting healthy and starting to win. A pair of quality victories, including another one-goal game, helped the Eagles soar up a few spots this week, and further complicated a middle sector of the rankings.
