Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) Joins USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25
Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) is the latest Philadelphia-area team to take a spin in the USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration. The Patriots (10-2) are No. 23 in this week's rankings.
Several undefeated teams (Maryvale, Darien, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, Sayville, Northport, Manchester Valley and Sacred Heart Prep) remained unbeaten. Others (Conestoga, West Islip) fell.
In between several top-caliber matchups dictated numerous moves in the national rankings. Among them:
— No. 1 Maryvale (Md.) defeated Archbishop Spalding’s (Md.) 16-10 in a rematch of last year’s IAAM A Conference championship. The Lions were scheduled to face Bryn Mawr (Md.) on Monday to close out an unbeaten regular season.
— Darien (Conn.) was a big winner in the Gains for Brains tournament. The Blue Wave, St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), Manhasset (N.Y.) and Garden City (N.Y.) all picked up crucial wins in the marquee midseason event on Long Island.
— Sayville (N.Y.) moved up after winning a battle of unbeatens over West Islip (N.Y.).
— Northport (N.Y.) edged Wilton (Conn.) in another huge regional match with national impact.
— Sacred Heart Greenwich (Conn.) continues to have widespread influence on the rankings with a loaded schedule. The Tigers split their biggest matchups of the week by pulling away from Good Counsel (Md.) before falling to Academy of Notre Dame (Pa.).
— One of the teams that knocked off Sacred Heart earlier this year, American Heritage-Delray (Fla.), along with unbeaten St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Va.) both have entered top-10 territoriy.
— Conestoga (Pa.) was finally knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten. West Chester Henderson (Pa.) topped the Pioneers in overtime ahead of a week that includes a challenge from traditional power Radnor (Pa.). 'Stoga has played without star Price Orcutt for two weeks, but opened the week avenging last year's state semifinal loss to Springfield-Delco (Pa.), handing the Cougars their first defeat.
— Penn Charter (Pa.) has not lost since a one-goal defeat to Episcopal Academy (Pa.). The two meet Friday in a key rematch with regional and national implications.
