FAQs

Why was the Lacrosse Equipment Council created?

The LEC provides a standing forum for dialogue and collaboration to achieve consensus around equipment in support of the sport of lacrosse.

Is the LEC responsible for both men's and women's equipment?

The LEC provides a forum for dialogue around equipment issues for lacrosse from both the men’s and women’s games. LEC members determine the areas of discussion and can recommend the review, development and adoption of standards for either game. However, the adoption of any standard for the rules of play is determined by the rule making bodies.

How does the LEC certify equipment?

The LEC  will work with stakeholders to ensure that a certification process is used when appropriate or as outlined in the playing rules to ensure that on field products meet any required standards for play.

If my older equipment isn't LEC approved, will I be able to use it in games?

The initial focus of the Lacrosse Equipment Council will be to review and research on equipment that is not currently under an ASTM or NOCSAE standard.

Will the LEC determine the rules for the sport?

No. The LEC can support the development of standards and the certification of equipment to those standards, but only rulemaking bodies determine if the standards are adopted into the rules of the game.

When will the LEC start?

The LEC governing committee began meeting in mid 2025.  No equipment or playing rules will be impacted for the 2026 season.

How can feedback be shared with the LEC?

The LEC webpage has user-friendly options to allow stakeholders to register to become members to participate in quarterly open meetings as well as submit topics and concerns for consideration by the Council.
