The 92nd annual USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament will take place at the University of Massachusetts this weekend from May 24-25. The event features approximately 900 of the nation’s top high school girls’ lacrosse players competing on 45 teams, representing 28 states and the District of Columbia. Games will be streamed live on USA Lacrosse TV.
Dating to 1933, the USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament has evolved into a key event for college coaches to evaluate high school players. Originally a regional event for women’s players as part of an annual national team selection process, the high school division was added in the 1980s and has flourished over the last four decades.
The USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament provides a unique opportunity for college coaches to evaluate recruits as the players participate on all-star teams as opposed to their high school and club teams. College coaches embrace the chance to see how the players fit into new environments and new roles. The geographic distribution of the teams also provides a platform for teams from developing lacrosse regions to see how they stack up against the traditional hotbeds while gaining unprecedented exposure.
The NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship is also being held in Massachusetts – at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. – and many of the participants from Boston College, Florida, North Carolina and Northwestern participated in the USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament during their high school career.
Amont the notable past USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament participants competing in the NCAA championship this weekend are Rachel Clark (Boston College), Clark Hamilton (Florida), Jane Hansen (Northwestern) and Sophie Student (North Carolina). Gold medalists from the 2022 U.S. women’s team that played in the National Tournament during their high school years include Sam Apuzzo, Lizzie Colson, Taylor Cummings, Ally Kennedy, Ally Mastroianni, Marie McCool, Kylie Ohlmiller and more.
Games begin on Saturday, May 24 at 8 a.m. and run through Sunday. The field is divided into five divisions based on previous year’s results and each division will crown a champion on Sunday.
This year’s USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament event sponsors include Capelli Sport, First Scout Productions, Gait Lacrosse, Go Live Sports (USA Lacrosse TV), Here We Flo, NCSA and Lacrosse Specialties.
