As the new academic year gets underway for colleges from coast-to-coast, it’s a good time to consider if starting a WCLA (Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates) club lacrosse team on your campus might be the right decision.

As last year’s USA Lacrosse WCLA Division I and II national champions, Boston College and New Hampshire will gladly tell you there are a range of benefits for all participants, including the possibly of capturing a glimmering trophy to permanently display back on your campus.

There may be a strong sense of déjà vu when the 2023 USA Lacrosse Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) National Championship gets underway next Tuesday in Virginia Beach.

To begin with, both of the number one seeds – Boston College Club in Division I and Utah Valley in Division II – were also the top seeds in last year’s championship tournament. Additionally, 22 of the 28 teams at this year’s event were also qualifiers for last year’s tournament. That’s one of the highest returnee rates in the championship’s 22-year history.

Coinciding with many of the IWLCA’s summer tournaments, the CPOA events provide candidates with hands-on training and live game action to supplement classroom instruction.

Momentum is a good thing in sports, and that’s something the college club teams that comprise USA Lacrosse’s WCLA (Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates) ranks are counting on in 2023.

After having both the 2020 and 2021 seasons wiped out due to the global pandemic, the WCLA finally returned to the field in 2022 with a full season and a successful national championship tournament in Round Rock, Texas. Boston College and Loyola (Md.) emerged as the D1 & D2 champions, respectively.

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Saturday afternoon, just minutes after Boston College Club defeated Georgia, 12-7, to claim its first WCLA Division I title, four of BC’s players found themselves together for one of the plethora of celebratory photos that were being taken by parents and supporters.

Standing on the Field 1 turf at Round Rock’s Multipurpose Complex, there was an odd feeling of familiarity between the current moment and one that occurred last spring.
