Marc Riccio, CEO of USA Lacrosse, will be among the inductees into the USA Lacrosse Greater Rochester Hall of Fame tonight. Also being recognized are Liz Hogan, John Houtenbrink, Peter Milliman, Dr. Philip Winslow and the 2015 and 2016 Victor High School boys’ lacrosse teams.
Riccio grew up in Canandaigua, N.Y., and was introduced to the sport when he was 12 years old by a neighbor. He went on to become the first high school All-American at Canandaigua Academy, where he played both football and lacrosse. He was later inducted into the Canandaigua Academy Sports Hall of Fame.
USA Lacrosse announces Kirsten Kelley of Blacklick, Ohio and Stephen Finnell, Jr. of Garden City, N.Y. as the recipients of 2023 Michael Breschi Scholarships.
Established in 2007 to honor the life and memory of Michael Breschi, son of University of North Carolina men’s lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi, the scholarships are awarded annually to two high school seniors who are attending college and are the son or daughter of a coach who serves as a full-time employee of an educational institution.
Tickets are now on sale for the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, hosted by USA Lacrosse on Saturday, January 6 at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.
All tickets must be purchased online in advance. Walk-ups will not be accepted and tickets will not be sold at the door.
NEW YORK — Today, eight of the leading thought leaders of lacrosse in the United States announced the formation of ELEVATE28 and its mission to double the country’s participation in the sport to 4 million annual players by the end of the decade.
Steve Stenersen, the former longtime USA Lacrosse CEO, was honored last week with the Lifetime Achievement Award by World Lacrosse.
Stenersen was selected for the highest honor bestowed by World Lacrosse after dedicating more than 35 years of his life to the growth and development of the sport of lacrosse. He served as the CEO of USA Lacrosse – the sport’s governing body in the United States – from 1998 to 2021 after having led its formation. He also served on the World Lacrosse board of directors as its vice president from 2014 to 2022.
SPARKS, Md. — It’s official. Lacrosse is returning to the Olympics as a medal sport for the first time in more than a century.
The International Olympic Committee voted on Monday to include lacrosse in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. It will be the sixth time lacrosse has been included in the Olympics, but the first time as a medal sport since the 1908 Summer Olympics in London.

SPARKS, Md. — A decades-long quest for lacrosse to return to the Olympic Games has taken a significant step forward. The LA28 Organizing Committee announced today its recommendation of lacrosse as one of five sports to be added to the program for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Final approval of the additional sports to the Olympic program for 2028 will be voted on during the International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai, India from October 15-17.
