Ages 7–10 : Train - Age Appropriate Skills & Techniques

Focus:

  • Build strong lacrosse fundamentals plus agility, speed, and coordination
  • Teach teamwork, strategy, and confidence in small sided game play

Training Environment:

  • Growth mindset: always try your best and never be afraid to make mistakes

Player Development:

  • Athletic: Advanced footwork, balance, speed, strength, flexibility
  • Lacrosse Skills: Focus on next level of passing, shooting, cradling, and dodging skills; behind the back passes and stick fakes, individual and team defensive strategies and techniques
  • Tactics: Confident with 1v1 and 2v2 concepts; learning 3v3, 4v4 concepts, and transition play philosophy
  • Social/Emotional: Independence, teamwork, fairness, helping others and learning that competition is fun
  • Cognitive: Anticipation of next move on the field, recall memory to learn from mistakes and success, can handle more complex instructions, building game awareness instincts

Training Structure:

  • Coach: player ratio - 12:1.
  • Sessions: 60 min, up to 3 times per week, 8–12 weeks
  • Training mix: 70% skills, 30% competition. Skill work is also always embedded into competition
  • Encourage multi-sport participation and scheduled breaks from organized sports during the year
