James M. Darcangelo

Jim Darcangelo was a two-time first team All-American at Towson University in 1974 and 1975, and a third team All-American in 1973. A member of Towson's Division II/III National Collegiate Championship Team in 1974, "Darky" was selected as the Division II/III midfielder of the year in 1974. He was also chosen as the Division II/III player of the year in both 1974 and 1975, and was the recipient of Towson's Scholar Athlete Award in 1975. Darky represented Towson in the 1975 North/South Collegiate All-Star Game.

Darcangelo had the unique distinction of being selected to the U.S. Team for the World Championships in 1978,1982, and 1986. He was also selected to play as an alternate for the 1990 U.S. Team.

After college, Darcangelo played for the Maryland Lacrosse Club beginning in 1976 and was honored as the Club Player of the Year in 1979. He was the first recipient of the Krongard Award, the highest honor attainable by an active club player, in 1989.

In 1988, Darcangelo co-founded LAX World as the nation's first retail store dedicated to the sale of lacrosse equipment. What began as a single store grew to a chain of 16 shops before Darcangelo sold the chain in 2013.

Darcangelo was inducted into the Towson University Hall of Fame in 1986, and joined his college teammate Bob Griebe as the first players inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1990. Darcangelo and Griebe also partnered in running the All-American Lacrosse Camp for youngsters for 35 years, in addition to teaching at other camps and clinics in the United States and Japan.

Darcangelo passed away at his home in Cape Canaveral, Florida in March, 2020, at the age of 67.
