Joan Wagner is one of the most respected officials in the women's game. At the time of her induction, she had been officiating for over 30 years and served as an official at the World Cup in 1986, 1989 and 1993. She was also the head technical delegate for the 1997 World Cup in Japan, the 1999 U-19 World Championship in Australia, and the 2003 European Championships in Germany.

Wagner started her lacrosse officiating career after she received her first rating in 1972. She received her international rating in 1985. In addition to officiating at international events, Wagner has worked numerous high school and college championships, including 15 years of NCAA Division I, II and III tournaments.

Wagner has given generously of her time and energy to work officiating clinics and camps all over the world: USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Czech Republic, England, Scotland, Sweden and Germany. She has served on the boards of the Philadelphia Women’s Lacrosse Officials, US Women’s Lacrosse Association, International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Association, US Lacrosse College Coaches & Umpires Ethics Committee and the NFHS Girls' Lacrosse Committee.

In 2003, she was awarded the Distinguished National Umpire Award.

Wagner attended Lower Merion High School and was a 1965 graduate of Millersville University, where she helped start a club team during her undergraduate days. She was previously inducted into the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter's Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and selected to the Chester County (Pa.) Hall of Fame in 2015.
