C.J. Kirst scored five goals to lead the United States past Canada 12-10 to win the 2022 World Lacrosse Men’s U21 Championship in Limerick, Ireland. It was the ninth consecutive men’s world championship for the U.S. at the junior level.
Unlike the most recent junior world championship, in 2016, when the U.S. trailed Canada by six at the half and by three in the fourth quarter before rallying for a 13-12 victory, the U.S. never trailed in this championship, but it was far from easy.
The United States is one game away from a gold medal. A familiar foe stands in its way.
The U.S. overcame a shaky start and did not allow an even-strength goal, grinding out a 10-2 victory over the Haudenosaunee in the World Lacrosse Men’s U21 Championship semifinals Thursday at the University of Limerick in Ireland.
The U.S. improved to 53-2 all-time in junior (previously U19) championship play and will look to capture its ninth gold medal Saturday. And for the eighth time, its opponent will be Canada, which blasted Australia 19-1 to advance to its sixth straight final.
Fueled by strong outside shooting, the United States scored a tournament-high 21 goals to defeat Puerto Rico 21-3 in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 World Lacrosse Men’s U21 Championship in Limerick, Ireland. The U.S. advances to Thursday’s semifinal round when it will meet the Haudenosaunee in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU at 2 p.m. (Eastern).
SPARKS, Md. — USA Lacrosse has named 44 of the nation's top high school girls' lacrosse players to the 2022 USA Select U16 and U18 teams. The players were selected following a national combine at USA Lacrosse headquarters last week that featured 150 players.
The 44 players come from high schools representing 15 states and the District of Columbia. A total of 15 of the 44 players are returning for their second year on a USA Select team.
A smothering defense and dominant faceoff play carried the United States to its first three wins in the World Lacrosse Men’s U21 Championship. On Monday, the offense had its turn.
Nine different players scored in the first 18 minutes, as the U.S. defeated Australia 17-2 to finish unbeaten in pool play in Limerick, Ireland.
