As a person who works regularly with programs and teams in underserved areas, I am often humbled by the number of volunteer coaches and parents that spend countless hours going above-and-beyond for their players. That doesn’t include the obvious day-to-day duties like running practices or e-mailing parents. That is to be expected.

SPARKS, Md. — Fan Fest, a hands-on experience for lacrosse fans to interact with the best players in the world and see all of the latest gear, uniforms and more in the vendor hall, is back in Baltimore as part of the annual USA Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon) this coming January.
Fan Fest runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at the Baltimore Convention Center and presale tickets for USA Lacrosse members are just $15 (for non-members the price is $20) through Jan. 14 (walk-up price will increase). Tickets for groups of 10 or more are just $10 each.

Last month, the findings from a three-year study that examined the effect of protective headgear use on concussion incidence in female high school players were shared publicly during the 2021 USA Sports Medicine Symposium. The research was jointly funded by USA Lacrosse and NOCSAE.

Established in 2007 to honor the life and memory of Michael Breschi, son of University of North Carolina men’s lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi, the scholarships are awarded annually to two high school seniors who plan to attend college and are the son or daughter of a coach who serves as a full-time employee of an educational institution.
It’s that time of year again—amid Fall Ball in preparation for another (likely full) season of lacrosse. Programs are full steam ahead looking for players, volunteers, and coaches in anticipation of getting back to the grind of a spring sport—all the while still adjusting to back to school and getting ready for the holiday season. Within all of the busyness, it is important to take a moment to take a step back to do what we can to prepare for the upcoming season—especially as coaches.
