USA Lacrosse has named Steve DiPietro, boys’ head coach at South Side High School in Rockville Centre, N.Y. as recipient of the organization’s 2024 Gerald J. Carroll, Jr. Exemplary Coaching Award.
SPARKS, Md. – USA Lacrosse is pleased to name the outstanding coaches selected to lead the U.S. Youth National Teams at the U15 age grouping as part of the National Team Development Program.
Serving as the head coaches will be Jon Posner (Lawrenceville School – N.J.) on the boys’ side and Darcy Messina (St. Anthony’s – N.Y.) on the girls’ side.
Every year, USA Lacrosse creates online charts that compare the variances in the boys’ and girls’ youth rules for different age groups. These free resources are now available for the 2025 season to assist players, coaches, and officials in properly applying the youth rules based on level of play.
From field size to equipment, from restart rules to checking, the charts outline the recommendations from USA Lacrosse for various age groups (6U & 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U).
While rare, there’s still the possibility that serious injuries could occur during lacrosse practices or games, just like in other sports. As such, Local Lacrosse Organizations (LLOs) and tournament operators must ensure the preparedness of their organization for handling emergency situations.
It is important that administrators, staff, and coaches are prepared to respond to emergency situations, and a key step in preparing for emergencies involves the development of an Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
Use of the green card, managing safe play within the 8-meter arc, and offensive fouls inside the critical scoring area have been identified as the points of emphasis by both the high school girls’ and youth girls’ lacrosse rules committees for the 2025 season. The committees also approved some minor rule changes and editorial changes to the rulebooks.

SPARKS, Md. – The USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament, one of the longest-running events in the sport, is heading to Amherst, Mass., from May 24-25, 2025. The National Tournament dates to 1933 and has evolved into one of the nation’s marquee recruiting events for high school girls’ lacrosse players.
USA Lacrosse and head coach Seth Tierney have named the staff for the U.S. Men’s Field National Team that will represent the United States in the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Japan. Bobby Benson, Charley Toomey and Kevin Warne will serve as assistant coaches while Patrick Watson will serve as the team operations administrator and Mike Kettell will serve as the equipment manager.
SPARKS, Md. — Registration is now open for a new USA Lacrosse Regional Academy in Connecticut, January 18-19, 2025, offering professional development opportunities for coaches at all levels of the game.
The USA Lacrosse Academy in Connecticut will be held at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield and is open to both USA Lacrosse members and non-members.
