NEW YORK — Today, eight of the leading thought leaders of lacrosse in the United States announced the formation of ELEVATE28 and its mission to double the country’s participation in the sport to 4 million annual players by the end of the decade.
Social media usage amongst young athletes is all but guaranteed, and as a coach, you have the difficult task of ensuring that your athletes are using it to enhance team culture rather than spread negativity. It’s tempting to ignore how athletes approach social media, but because it’s a primary method of communication for many of them, it needs to be part of the team culture conversation.

However, when was the last time you really considered what respect means to you, and how your athletes define it? Respectful behaviors might seem obvious to you, but often, what you consider signs of respect are things that athletes simply haven’t learned or don’t understand.
Sixes, the fast-paced, Olympic-style version of lacrosse, has seen increased exposure over the past year with inclusion in The World Games in Birmingham, Ala., last summer and the Premier Lacrosse League Championship Series in February.
Now it’s ready to come to youth lacrosse.
SPARKS, Md. —Registration for the inaugural USA Lacrosse Academy, a professional development opportunity for coaches and officials, is now open. The first USA Lacrosse Academy is set for Oct. 7-8 at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis and a second event is being planned for Philadelphia (Jan. 13-14, 2024).
The Indy event will include multiple sessions for men’s game and women’s game coaches and a one-day “Train the Trainers” track in officiating.
SPARKS, Md. —USA Lacrosse unveiled today a strategy for its events platform that will bring new opportunities to the lacrosse community throughout the entire country. The annual schedule — focused on engagement, entertainment and education — is anchored by four key events spread throughout the year, including the addition of an exciting new showcase event in the fall featuring the U.S. men’s and women’s national teams.
SPARKS, Md. — USA Lacrosse has named Kristen Carr, Molly Ford Hutchinson, Megan Huether Nicotra, Caitlyn McFadden Phipps and Lauren Schwarzmann Skellchock as the girls’ coaches for the 2023 USA Select teams. Carr and Skellchock will coach the U18 team, Ford Hutchinson and Phipps will coach the U16 team and Huether Nicota will work with both teams.
All five coaches are returning to the program for at least the second year.
