SPARKS, Md. — Four years ago this summer, the U.S. men’s team nipped Canada 9-8 on Tom Schreiber’s last-second goal in Netanya, Israel to win the 2018 men’s world championship. Since then, the U.S. men’s team has reconvened under head coach John Danowski for a handful of events, but the leadup to the next world championship was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 70 players competed in a series of 10 training camps, tryouts and events over the last four years. Eighteen will represent the U.S. in the biggest women’s world championship ever.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Five years ago the United States women’s lacrosse team hoisted the World Cup trophy high above their heads as they celebrated in Guildford, England. It was a magical moment, but on Wednesday night, this year’s U.S. players got a taste of what could come.

The U.S. defeated a team of talented players from Athletes Unlimited 15-8 before a spirited crowd of 2,250 spectators at Stony Brook’s Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, USA – World Lacrosse and ESPN have reached a historic agreement, giving the network global media rights to World Lacrosse championships through 2023. A total of 246 games across three international events will be carried exclusively on ESPN’s linear networks or ESPN+ in the U.S., and in 170+ territories via ESPN International.

The World Games has announced the schedule for the men's and women's lacrosse events this summer and the U.S. men will play Germany, Great Britain and Australia in pool play. The U.S. women will play Australia, Japan and the Czech Republic during pool play.

The U.S. women’s national team will complete a three-day training camp in preparation for the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship with a public exhibition game against a team of players from Athletes Unlimited on Wednesday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Stony Brook University.

Pre-sale tickets are now on sale for $14 and group tickets (10 or more) are also available for $10 per ticket. USA Lacrosse members will receive an email with a link to purchase individual tickets at a discounted price of $12.

Richie Moran, a Hall of Fame coach and a lifelong advocate for the sport, died on Sunday at the age of 85.

One of the most beloved figures in the sport’s history, Moran was a Long Island native who first gained notoriety as a standout midfielder for the powerhouse Sewanhaka High School teams. He went on to the University of Maryland, where he helped the Terps win the 1959 national championship.
