Growing up in Denver, Devon Wills never imagined that a sport introduced to her by a childhood friend whose dad owned a sporting goods store would eventually help shape almost every step of her life for the next three decades.

They started as college opponents in the early 2000’s, but later became teammates as professional players and on the U.S. National Team. From those shared experiences, Boyle has forged a strong opinion about Sweeney’s impact on the game.

“When you look at the modern long-stick midfield position, he is the prototype,” Boyle said. “He set the standard.”

Boyle’s description of his friend may be completely accurate when you consider the overall skill set that Sweeney brought to the field.

Being on the field just doesn’t get stale for Lynn Burnes Bowers, being inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in January as a truly great official.

After a successful playing career at Penn State, it didn’t take Bowers long to realize that she needed to find a new outlet for her love of the game. Many former players gravitate to coaching. Bowers did some of that also, but found her true calling as a game official.
