"Back to School" Professional Development Series Aimed at PE Instructors

USA Lacrosse will hold a three-part “Back to School” professional development series aimed at physical education instructors beginning July 28. The free one-hour sessions will be held each Wednesday evening from July 28 through August 11 beginning at 7 p.m. (Eastern). 

Here’s a synopsis of the sessions:

USA Lacrosse is helping to bring more sport resources to you! Join staff members from USA Field Hockey, USA Lacrosse, US Soccer, US Tennis Association, and USA Volleyball in learning about the resources each organization offers to support you, the educator, in instructing our respective sports.

Jenna Ortega, USA Field Hockey

Jenna Ortega joined the USA Field Hockey staff in 2017 and current serves as Youth Engagement Manager for the organization. She previously served as Senior Sport Development Coordinator and Sport Development Manager for USA Field Hockey. She currently coaches field hockey and lacrosse at the high school level and she played both sports at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Lauren Davenport, USA Lacrosse

Lauren Davenport has been the manager of athlete development at USA Lacrosse since 2019. She came to USA Lacrosse from Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School in California where she was the founding athletic director and a health and PE teacher. She has coached lacrosse at the youth, high school and collegiate levels and is currently an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Notre Dame (Md.).

Zac Crawford, US Soccer

Zac Crawford joined US Soccer in October 2017 as the Grassroots Coach Educator overseeing the technical and curriculum development for the eight different foundational level in-person and online courses that focus on each game model. He also oversees the training and support for the nation’s network of 500+ coach developers through the Grassroots Instructor License Course.  Zac is originally from Memphis, TN. After graduating with honors from Bethel in 2001, Zac attended graduate school at the University of Alabama for a Ph.D in Cognitive Psychology. He holds a Masters in Cognitive Psychology as well as a Masters in Human Performance with an Emphasis in Sport Management. Zac believes strongly in multi-sport participation and is also a 200-hour registered Yoga Teacher as well as a PSIA-AASI Level 1 Snowboard instructor.

Tony Stingley, US Tennis Association

Tony Stingley is the national manager, school tennis for the United States Tennis Assocation. He joined the national organization in 2017 after previously spending nearly 20 years as director of training and outreach for USTA Northern Section.

Kris Berzins, USA Volleyball

Kris Berzins joined USA Volleyball in 2010 and is currently the Coach and Senior Manager of the National Team Development Program (NTDP). He has coached a variety of teams including NTDP and at Loyola University Chicago. He has served as a club program director and vice president after competing as an outside hitter at the collegiate and professional levels. Kris has a BBA in both Accounting and Economics, accompanied by an MBA in Information Systems.

Join USA Lacrosse’s Gabe Fowler in this active session to learn the basic skills of lacrosse! No stick at home? Not a problem, get a few tennis balls or some balled up socks, and come ready to learn and move!

USA Lacrosse is committed to help introduce the sport through physical education classes in schools and this is the latest offering to support the effort. The organization offers a comprehensive teacher-friendly curriculum that can be used in classes. The curriculum provides age-specific unit plans, lesson plans, drills, games, educational handouts, cross-curricular activities and more. USA Lacrosse also offers grants for the soft stick equipment that can be used with the curriculum.

Breathing as a Movement Panacea with Dr. Lance von Stade

Dr. Lance von Stade, Family Chiropractor and Certified Athletic Trainer, joins USA Lacrosse to share movement practices to help PE Educators reduce overuse injuries and move better throughout the school year.

Dr. Lance is the owner of Golden Gate Chiropractic Center and co-founder of a chiropractic performance training company. He has been an Olympic performance coach, world champion athletic trainer, college professor, and high school teacher in addition to creating an online learning platform. Most importantly, Dr. Lance is dedicated to learning and sharing knowledge to help those he encounters show up as their best selves.
