There’s not much that Crista Samaras hasn’t accomplished in the lacrosse world.

She was a three-time collegiate All-American attacker at Princeton, a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year, and graduated in 1999 ranked first on both the school's career goals list (189) and career points list (270). She then played on two U.S. World Cup teams, winning gold in 2001 and silver in 2005.

Sometimes you don’t know where life is going to take you.

If Sam Geiersbach hadn’t torn her ACL her sophomore year in 2018 at Richmond and if COVID hadn’t cancelled the 2020 season, she probably never would have gotten a bonus graduate school year at North Carolina in 2022.

That year turned out to be magical. She scored the final four goals of the game in UNC’s epic come-from-behind win over Northwestern in the NCAA semifinals and then scored three goals in the title game victory over Boston College to earn NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player honors.

When Christie Jenkins Kemezis received a phone call from Maryland head coach Cathy Reese, she thought they were just going to discuss some “things, Terps, this and that.” What Reese really wanted to discuss: Jenkins Kemezis’ induction into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

“I was surprised,” Jenkins Kemezis said.”I'm completely honored, just knowing how many amazing players are out there, before me, after me, with me.”

Casey Powell is one of the most creative players to ever play the sport – but even for a magician like him, it starts with the fundamentals.

Powell, a National Lacrosse Hall of Fame member, was a presenter at last year’s USA Lacrosse Academy in Denver and he’ll be back to share his knowledge again this year with fellow coaches from Dec. 6-7 at the Sonesta Hotel in Denver. Powell, the head boys’ lacrosse coach at Colorado Academy, will present this year on “How to Become an All-American in Your Own Back Yard.”

As one would expect in a place like Casper, Wyoming, outdoor recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking and skiing are quite popular. Lacrosse hopes to join that roster in the near future.

With support from USA Lacrosse, which provided sticks and other equipment, the Boys & Girls Club of Central Wyoming recently hosted a two-day event designed to introduce the game and empower youth. Providing hands-on skills training through clinics, and competition opportunities with a Flex6 tournament, the event drew over 200 youth participants.
