COLORADO SPRINGS — World Lacrosse today announced the schedule for its 2022 Men’s U21 Championship, hosted by Ireland Lacrosse at the University of Limerick from August 10-20. The largest junior-level world championship staged to date by World Lacrosse will feature a record 23 teams and more than 500 athletes competing in 86 games over 11 days. 

The 23 teams in Limerick will be split into five pools — three groups of five and two groups of four. Pool A features the top ranked teams: USA, Canada, Australia, Haudenosaunee and England.

SPARKS, Md. — USA Lacrosse and Gatorade, the sports fuel leader, announced a multi-year partnership as the “Exclusive Sports Drink of USA Lacrosse.” Through the agreement, Gatorade becomes an Official Partner of USA Lacrosse and the U.S. national teams, providing access to its entire product portfolio.

SPARKS, Md. — Four years ago this summer, the U.S. men’s team nipped Canada 9-8 on Tom Schreiber’s last-second goal in Netanya, Israel to win the 2018 men’s world championship. Since then, the U.S. men’s team has reconvened under head coach John Danowski for a handful of events, but the leadup to the next world championship was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Five years ago the United States women’s lacrosse team hoisted the World Cup trophy high above their heads as they celebrated in Guildford, England. It was a magical moment, but on Wednesday night, this year’s U.S. players got a taste of what could come.

The U.S. defeated a team of talented players from Athletes Unlimited 15-8 before a spirited crowd of 2,250 spectators at Stony Brook’s Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) powered by TicketMaster and USA Lacrosse have announced a strategic partnership agreement centered around enhancing the experience in the sport for youth players.

“We’re very excited to work with the PLL on several fronts,” said Marc Riccio, president and CEO of USA Lacrosse. “Both of our organizations share a passion for growing the sport and working together on these youth lacrosse initiatives will aid our efforts. We’re looking forward to an exciting summer of PLL action and are proud to join forces.”

USA Lacrosse has named Adam White of Boston, Massachusetts as recipient of the organization’s 2021 Gerald J. Carroll, Jr. Exemplary Coaching Award. White has served as a coach and English teacher at St. Sebastian’s School in Needham, Mass. since 2013. After four years as an assistant coach, he took over as the boys’ varsity lacrosse head coach in 2017.

WASHINGTON — The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the recipients of the 16th annual Tewaaraton Native American Scholarships, presented by USA Lacrosse. Awarded to male and female students each year, the scholarship honors high school students of Haudenosaunee heritage who exemplify high character, leadership, and academics both on and off the lacrosse field.

BEL AIR, Md. — Margot Spatola didn’t coach the Massachusetts/Rhode Island team that won last year’s USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament, but she knew what she was getting into when she agreed to coach this year’s team.

After beating Long Island Metro 10-9 in the championship game of the Red Division at Cedar Lane Regional Sports Park, the Massachusetts/Rhode Island region has now won the top flight at the event three straight times and four of the last five events.
