USA Lacrosse has named Ben Hunt of Auburn, Alabama as recipient of the organization’s 2022 Gerald J. Carroll, Jr. Exemplary Coaching Award.

Hunt has served as the varsity head coach at Auburn High School since the founding of the program in 2010, and also coaches local youth players to support the growth of the game in East Alabama. He was the 2021 Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Coach of the Year.

USA Lacrosse hits the Pacific Northwest for Ignite the Future Portland, a new initiative from the sport’s governing body that will bring a variety of events and resources to designated geographic areas. The Portland event, the pilot location for this new program, will be held at four locations around the city on the weekend of Feb. 24-26, 2023.

Kylie Ohlmiller should have been devastated. Yet all she could do was smile.

Less than 24 hours after tearing the ACL in her left knee in the waning minutes of the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship semifinals at Towson, Ohlmiller’s U.S. teammates presented her with a black leatherbound scrapbook filled with pictures, notes and drawings — a keepsake she might not have today if it were not for the injury.

Commotio cordis is a Latin term, meaning “agitation of the heart.” It’s a rare, but serious, medical condition that is caused by low-impact trauma to the chest, including by a projectile such as a lacrosse ball or baseball. This impact can cause the heart to change its normal rhythm and lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

Dear Lacrosse Community,

On January 11, 2023, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) officially welcomed USA Lacrosse as a Recognized Sport Organization (RSO) in the Affiliates Organization Council (AOC). 

So, what do these acronyms mean and how does it affect the sport of lacrosse?

First and foremost, this is a big deal I am really excited about!

As one of the most dynamic players in lacrosse, Michael Sowers attributes much of his speed and explosiveness to his commitment to footwork training. This year at the USA Lacrosse Convention in Baltimore, Sowers will share some of the training secrets that have helped elevate him to elite attackman status.

LaxCon, annually the sport’s largest educational and networking event, takes place at the Baltimore Convention Center, Jan. 20-22, 2023.
