SPARKS, Md. — All 12 of the players that helped the United States win the women’s lacrosse competition at The World Games in Chengdu, China, will be back in uniform competing at The Atlas Cup at USA Lacrosse headquarters from Sept. 26-28. 

The Atlas Cup, featuring the men’s and women’s national sixes teams from Canada, the Haudenosaunee Nationals, Puerto Rico and the United States, will utilize the sixes format of the sport, the discipline for the lacrosse competition at the 2028 LA Olympics. 

USA Lacrosse has developed a new online course to introduce Sixes Lacrosse to men’s and women’s game officials. As the newest addition to the USAL Officials Development online catalogue, this course is intended to help officials confidently officiate this fast-paced lacrosse discipline that will be utilized at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The online course is designed to provide officials with the following points of instruction:

U.S. team veteran Marie McCool was named the Most Valuable Player of the lacrosse competition at The World Games in Chengdu, China after leading the U.S. to a perfect 5-0 record, including a 16-8 win over Canada in the gold medal game. 

It was the second World Games gold medal for McCool, who was the youngest member of the U.S. team that won the 2017 World Games title in Wroclaw, Poland. McCool has also won a pair of World Lacrosse championships in the U.S. team system – in 2017 in Guildford, England and in 2022 in Towson, Md. 

The United States women’s national team avenged one of its rare defeats in international lacrosse, doubling up Canada 16-8 to win the gold medal at The World Games in Chengdu, China on Monday. Canada had defeated the USA 14-12 in the 2022 edition of this event, but the U.S. led wire-to-wire to complete a dominant run through the tournament field this time around.

The United States is headed to the championship game of The World Games 2025 following a 24-10 victory over Japan in the semifinals on Sunday in Chengdu, China. It’s the third straight World Games final for the U.S.

The U.S. beat Canada 11-8 in the 2017 final in Wroclaw, Poland in a 10v10 field version of the sport, but lost to Canada 14-12 in 2022 using the sixes discipline, which is in play for these World Games and will be the format of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The United States completed pool play undefeated following a 32-8 victory over Czechia to earn a spot in the semifinal round of the women's lacrosse competition at The World Games in Chengdu, China. The U.S. went 3-0 to capture Group B and will play Japan in the semifinals on Sunday, August 10 at 1 p.m. local (1 a.m. Eastern). 

Canada, which beat the U.S. in the gold medal game at the most recent World Games in 2022, won Pool A with a 3-0 record and will meet Australia in the other semifinal.

After a wild back-and-forth flurry to open the game, the United States pulled away from longtime rival Australia, posting a 25-13 victory in pool play at The World Games in Chengdu, China. The victory moved the USA into first place in Group B with a 2-0 record while Australia slipped to 1-1.

Canada, the gold medalist at the most recent World Games in 2022, edged Great Britain 14-10 earlier in the day to move on top in Group A with a 2-0 record. The USA (silver) and Australia (bronze) were the other medalists in 2022.

The U.S. Women’s Sixes National Team could not have drawn up a better debut than what it demonstrated Thursday at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China.

The United States averaged a goal per minute in a 32-11 victory over Ireland to open the lacrosse competition, part of a massive multi-sport spectacle orchestrated by the International World Games Association.

Lacrosse’s return to the Olympics comes in 2028, but the U.S. women’s sixes team will get an early taste of the Olympic flavor when play begins at The World Games in Chengdu, China later this week. The U.S. team roster was selected following a two-day training camp at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., in June and the team just completed a three-day training camp in Los Angeles before flying to China. Ten of the 12 players on the roster also helped the U.S.

SPARKS, Md. — Head coach Lindsey Munday has announced the addition of Ellie Masera to the USA roster for The World Games 2025, a quadrennial Olympic-style event that will feature women’s lacrosse as a championship sport for the third time. The lacrosse competition at The World Games, featuring the sixes discipline, begins on Aug. 7 in Chengdu, China.
